For the second time this year Webb Simpson made the cut in a PGA Tour event as the recent Wake Forest graduate finished tied for 64th place at the Stanford St. Jude Championship Sunday in Memphis, Tenn.

This marks the first cut made by Simpson as a professional as the Raleigh native turned pro following the conclusion of the NCAA Championship on May 31.

On March 16, Simpson made the cut as an amateur at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, Fla. and finished tied for 31st.

Simpson opened the Stanford St. Jude Championship with a one-over 71 in a first round that witnessed two birdies from the ACC Player of the Year.

Simpson, who was in jeopardy of missing the cut after starting the second round four over par after five holes, rallied to post four birdies on the 7,244-yard TPC Southwind Course. Simpson finished the second round Friday with a two-over 72 to make the cut by two strokes.

Simpson overcame a five-over 75 in the third round to card his second two-over 72 of the event Sunday to finish tied for 64th. Simpson won $12,660 for his efforts.

According to the Raleigh News and Observer, Simpson will continue to attempt entering tournaments on sponsor's exemptions and hopefully make enough money to qualify to stay on tour while avoiding the PGA Tour qualifying school.
