Freshmen Shine At South Carolina Invitational

    COLUMBIA, S.C. --  Wake Forest freshmen Andrew Brasseaux and Jason Morgenstern posted impressive victories en route to the semifinals at the South Carolina Fall Invitational in Columbia, S.C., this weekend.

    Morgenstern competed in the B-1 singles flight. He defeated Zack Watson of Radford, Tim Mudrick of Auburn University at Montgomery and David Wolff of South Carolina to reach the semifinals. The native of Old Bethpage, N.Y., was ousted by Carlos Alvarez of Clemson.

    Brasseaux saw action in the B-2 singles flight. The native of Covington, La., knocked off Jack Roux of USC-Upstate, Brandon Flanagan of Furman, Parantap Vhaturvedi of South Carolina State on his way to the semifinals. Brasseaux lost to Keith Embree of South Florida in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

    Sophomore Cory Parr was upset in his first round match against Daniel Plasa of Auburn University at Montgomery, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.

    The Deacons return to action this week at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C.  Action begins Wednesday and runs through Sunday.
