Parr Begins NCAA Tourney Play on Wednesday

May 20, 2008

TULSA, Okla. - Cory Parr will represent Wake Forest men's tennis at the NCAA Individual Championships on Wednesday, opening with 9-16 seeded opponent Andre Begemann from Pepperdine in the Round of 64.

The match will begin at 11 a.m. ET. The winner will advance to the Round of 32 to face either TCU's Cosmin Cotet or Rice's Christoph Muller on Thursday.

Parr finished the year with a 26-13 record, most recently taking a straight set win over 27th-ranked Alexey Tsyrenov in the Demon Deacons' 4-3 loss at the opening round of the NCAA Team Tournament.

Begemann leads the Pepperdine lineup, posting a 24-8 record. Begemann missed the recent NCAA Team Championships due to a family emergency, where the No. 13 Waves fell to No. 4 Georgia in the Sweet 16. The outing against Parr will be Begemann's first match since the WCC Tournament, where he took WCC Player of the Year honors and led the team to the conference title.

On Thursday, Cory Parr and Steven Forman will begin doubles play at the championship. The pair earned All-American honors with a 20-8 overall record, finishing the year with a No. 7 national rank.

The WFU duo will face Texas Tech's Christian Rojmar-Bojan Szumanski in opening Round of 32. The Red Raider tandem ranks 13th in the most recent ITA Poll and holds a 17-9 record since fall tournament play.
