GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team will begin post-season March Madness on Thursday night with Florida State in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.
The Greensboro Coliseum is the host site of the 2008 ACC Championships. Fans can find complete tournament information on the web at the ACC's Tournament Central.
The Demon Deacons (15-14, 2-12) finished the regular season in a tenth place tie with Virginia Tech in conference standings. A coin toss determined the Deacs' 11-seed tournament placing.
The Deacs have won eight ACC opening round games since 1978, but have never sealed more than one win at the conference tournament. Wake Forest last advanced past the first round of the championships in 2005 as a 10-seed, upsetting 7th-seeded Virginia Tech 61-55.
The Seminoles enter the tournament with 17-12, 7-7 record and a No. 6 seed.
FSU leads Wake Forest 19-14 since the series opening in 1992. The Seminoles also hold a 2-1 advantage in neutral territory. When the teams met earlier this season, Seminoles Mara Freshour and Shante Williams each posted a game high 18 points, while Christen Brown led the Deacons with 12 points in Wake's 80-54 loss. Wake Forest's Mekia Valentine led both teams on the glass, pulling nine rebounds overall.
The winner of Thursday's matchup will face No. 3 seed Duke (21-8, 10-4) in the second round.
