Live Scoring
The No. 14 Wake Forest women's golf team carded a five-over 293, tying its fifth-best round ever in the NCAA Championship, and is currently tied for fifth place after one round in Albuquerque.
The Deacons were led by Nannette Hill's record-setting five-under 67, which has the junior in the lead for individual honors. Hill recorded five birdies and 13 pars to tie the course record on the par-72, 6,424-yard University of New Mexico Championship Course.
Hill's round also stands as the best postseason round in the history of Wake Forest women's golf. Sonia Bauer was the previous record holder with a four-under 68 in the second round of the 1997 NCAA Championship at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
Hill had never posted a round at even par or under during her first two NCAA Championship competitions in 2006 and 2007. Hill's best rounds in the championship coming into Tuesday were two-over 74s in the third round of the 2006 and 2007 NCAA Championship.
For Hill, Tuesday marked her best round since firing a six-under 66 in the second round of the Landfall Tradition in October, an event in which the junior took individual honors for the first time in her career.
Hill leads five players tied for second at three under par.
Natalie Sheary, competing in the first championship of her career, posted a two-over 74 Tuesday. The freshman was the second-best finisher for Wake and is currently tied for 44th place. Sheary shot one birdie for the round.
Fellow freshman Allie Bodemann carded a three-over 75 to land in a tie for 53rd. Bodemann posted an eighth-place finish at the ACC Championship but is looking to rebound after struggling at the NCAA East Regional two weeks ago.
Laura Crawford, competing in her third NCAA Championship, fired five-over 77 in the opening round and is currently tied for 85th place.
Jean Chua carded a seven-over 79 to end the Deacon scoring.
Southern Cal leads the 24-team field after posting a four-under 284. The Deacs are nine shots off the lead.
The Deacs will tee-off at 3:10 p.m. eastern time for Wednesday's second round.
