Wake Forest Tenth After Completing Suspended Third Round in Albuquerque

Weather has wreaked havoc on the NCAA Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. as for the second consecutive day play was suspended.

The Deacs were through 17 holes Thursday in a third round that witnessed a three hour delay due to lightning and were unable to complete the round due to darkness.

The second round was suspended because of winds that reached gusts of 45 miles per hour.

Wake completed the last two holes of the third round Friday and is currently tied for tenth place with a 41-over 905. The Deacs posted a 17-over 305 in the third round.

The fourth and final round is scheduled to begin moments after Friday's conclusion of the third round.

Nannette Hill carded a three-over 75 in the round and continues to lead the Deacs. The junior is tied for seventh place heading into the final round. Hill has posted a four-over 220 for the tournament.

Hill led the Deacs in birdies for the third round with two and is five strokes back of leader Azahara Munoz of Arizona State.

Laura Crawford posted back-to-back two-over 74s in the second round to rise into a tie for 26th. The senior began the third round in a tie for 43rd place. Crawford is playing in her fourth NCAA Championship.

Crawford posted the best third round of any Deacon golfer.

Natalie Sheary fell three spots in the third round after carding a four-over 76. The freshman is currently tied for 33rd place in her first NCAA Championship.

Freshman Allie Bodemann posted an 11-over 83 in the third round and stands tied for 98th.

Junior Jean Chua carded an eight-over 80 and is currently tied for 119th.
 

 

Southern California leads the event with a 15-over 879 and holds a three stroke lead over Pac-10 rival UCLA.

Duke stands eighth with a 35-over 899. The Blue Devils would need to make up a 20-stroke differential to win their fourth straight NCAA title.

Virginia is 15th at 50 over par. Live scoring and course statistics will be available for Friday's final round at Golfstat.com.

Weather could become a factor again as Weather.com projects a 40 percent chance of rain with afternoon thunderstorms in Albuquerque.
