Wake Forest Wraps Up Fall Season at the Collegiate Match Play Championship

Nov. 2, 2006

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 15-ranked Wake Forest women's golf team will wrap up its fall season at the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship this weekend at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.

The match play tournament, co-hosted by the National Golf Coaches Association and the Central Florida Sports Commission, features 16 of the top teams in the country.

All 16 teams are ranked in the top 40 of the latest Golfweek Collegiate Rankings. The three-day tournament features seven of the top 16 teams in the country, including five top 10 squads.

The Demon Deacons are seeded fifth in the field and will square off against 12th-seeded LSU in the first round. The winner of the Wake-LSU match will face the winner of fourth-seeded Vanderbilt and 13th-seeded SMU.

Wake Forest is coming off a fourth-place showing at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., last weekend. Senior Mandy Goins had a strong showing at the tournament, finishing in second place out of 60 golfers.

Senior Maggie Simons and junior Laura Crawford had season-best rounds on the third day of the tournament, while junior Jordan Craig posted a career-best score on Sunday as well.

The Deacons will not compete again until they open up their spring season Feb. 12-14 at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Los Angeles.
